We had a few days holiday last month in the Yorkshire Dales and went to see James Cox's famous Silver Swan Automaton at the Bowes Museum. Well worth watching the youtube video, or visit if you can! No new books have been published this month, and summer madness is upon us, so we have listed below various books we have had in stock for some time. For every book on this month's list we are open to sensible offers. I will not be offended by any offer, and hopefully you will not be offended if I decline any offers which I feel unable to accept.

Le Monde des Automates, Etude Historique et Technique Chapuis (A.) & Gelis (E.)
O/P. The classic work on all types of automata and their makers which has never been bettered. This book is a comprehensive study ranging from simple ancient Egyptian articulated heads to the complex androids of Jaquet-Droz. There are six chapters about clocks with automata and there is even a chapter on the history of mechanical artificial limbs! The later work by Chapuis & Droz (in 1949/1958) was written as an update to, and not a replacement of, this book. A nicely bound copy in quarter grey calf with marbled boards, with ribbed and gilt tooled spine (now a little rubbed). A very good copy of a rare and valued book. [French language]
