O/P. The book opens with two historical essays: A Survey of the American Watch Industry and The Development of Watch Manufacturing at the Waltham Watch Company 1849 - 1910. The watches are described in five sections: Pre-Factory production 1771 - 1850; Jeweled Watch Manufacturers; Dollar Watch Manufacturers; Cheap Watch Manufacturers and Experimental and Independent makers 1850 - 1972. O/P. A good book on weight driven French clocks from the 16th to the beginning of the 19th century, including gothic style clocks for church buildings and domestic houses, and lantern clocks. A very good copy but, as so often with books published by Tardy, the paper covering the boards is splitting along the spine. [French language]

The Company was founded in 1888 for the large-scale production of pocket watches, but after some initial success was dissolved in 1906.
