A sale of important precision timekeepers - marine chronometers, regulators, watches - and documents relating to the discovery of the longitude. 75 lots all illustrated in colour, the most important being an 8-day marine timekeeper by Henry Sully - probably the third he made and one of only two known to have survived. This item, called Pendule à Levier by Sully, was made in 1724 and is extensively described and illustrated. Other items in the sale included an exceptional chronometer wristwatch by F.P. Journe, a pocket watch by George Daniels, several marine chronometers by Breguet and the first lever watch made by Joseph Emery. Hardback catalogue, very good condition. Professor Thomas Engel's collection was mainly pocket watches but this auction also included a few wristwatches, books, horological tools, marine chronometers and several Breguet manuscripts. Pocket and wristwatches by Breguet was one of the collections strengths and perhaps the star of the collection was a one-minute flying tourbillon pocket chronometer made in 1927 by Alfred Helwig. Highlights of the sale were a rare platinum 'World Time' wristwatch by Patek Philippe, a singing bird timepiece specially made for the 1851 Great Exhibition in London, a fine mantel regulator by Henri Motel and a pocket chronometer by Louis Berthoud.
