A deluxe large folio volume in watered silk covered box, presenting the magnificent horological collection built by Lord Sandberg, a former chairman of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. The collection, spanning the period 1540 to 1900, comprised 423 items (all clearly described and beautifully illustrated) including complicated and astronomical watches, enamelled and automaton watches for the Chinese Market, singing bird boxes, erotic watches and watches of exquisite form. This is a high quality volume printed on 250gsm matt paper with all edges gilt, bound in full dark green morocco with gilt lettering and tooling to the spine and the arms of Lord Sandberg in gilt on the front cover. The book is housed in a watered silk covered box with dark green morocco spine, the latter also with gilt lettering and tooling. The transit box is in very good condition, the outside with a few marks and with light wear to corners. The book measures 161/8 x 12¼ x 2¾ inches. The book on its own weighs 8.6 kg, the book plus both boxes weighs 13.5 kg. The publisher's publicity flyer stated that this was a limited edition of 100 copies, but the author (who sold me this copy) told me that less than 50 copies were actually ordered and produced. The flyer gave the original price as 7,000 Swiss Francs or 4,800 US Dollars.
