Chaffers (W.): Hall-Marks on Plate
O/P. 238 pages, 5th edition, 1875. Detailed information for hallmarks on gold and silver plate for the assay offices in England, Scotland and Ireland, with information on the hallmarks of other European countries. Part 2 of the book is a detailed account of the French system of hallmarking. A clean copy, binding tight, hinges splitting internally, boards worn. (Ref: K3302 - X1)  in stock.

La Chambre Suisse De L'Horlogerie: Conquête du Temps / Conquest of Time
O/P. 17 pages, 3 large fold out colour plates, 1958. Three large works of art were commissioned by the Swiss Chamber of Watchmaking, and painted by Hans Erni, for the Swiss pavilion at the Brussels World's Fair in 1958. This booklet reproduces the paintings and has a commentary, by Charly Guyot, explaining the images and scenes shown. A good copy, card covers. Chandlee (E.E.): Six Quaker Clockmakers
O/P. 260 pages, 163 figures, first edition, 1943. An interesting study of the six clockmakers (Abel Cottey and 5 members of the Chandlee family) who worked in Nottingham on the Maryland/Pennsylvania border in the late seventeenth and all of the eighteenth century. Cottey, trained in England, was Pennsylvania's first clockmaker. A very good copy complete with original slip case (the latter now with some splits and wear). (Ref: K5088 - A2)  in stock.

O/P. 325 pages, 1948. A comprehensive review of Swiss horology from early times up to 1948. Chapters on electric clocks, marine chronometers, watch balances, wristwatches etc. Spine torn at head and faded, corners bumped, hence sensible price. [French language] (Ref: K70 - F1)  in stock.

This well illustrated book tells the history of clocks and watches and how the pursuit of more accurate timekeeping has had a remarkable influence on scientific and technological developments over the last 800 years. [Christie's]: The Albert Odmark Collection of Important Clocks and Watches
O/P. 450 lots, all illustrated in colour. A fine collection which included a complicated quarter striking automaton skeleton clock with oscillating dial by Hubert Sarton, a walnut loncase clock with grasshopper escapement attributed to Daniel Delander and some rare early pocket watches. O/P. 96 pages, 26 b&w plates, 1 colour plate, 1958. The Christie's sale catalogue (illustrated) for the famous Ilbert collection; the collection was sold to the British Museum prior to the auction. [Christie's]: The Collection of the Barons Nathaniel and Albert von Rothschild
O/P. 224 lots, all illustrated in colour. The sale of two important 19th century collections of musical instruments, arms & armour, manuscripts, coins & medals, Silver, ceramics, glass, sculpture, scientific instruments, clocks, furniture and textiles. The clocks included a fine longcase clock by Berthoud, the scientific instruments included a Jost Bürgi globe, several astrolabes and several items by Christoph Schissler of Augsburg. [Christie's]: The Mostyn Tompion
O/P. The auction catalogue for a single item - the famous year-going spring driven table clock made by Thomas Tompion for William III. The catalogue has 12 photographs of the clock and 4 pages of description and provenance. Prior to the sale taking place the clock was sold to the British Museum. Clarke (T.N.), Morrison-Low (A.D.) & Simpson (A.D.C.): Brass & Glass, Scientific Instrument Making Workshops in Scotland
O/P. 320 pages, illustrated, 1989. An excellent book, the result of many years of detailed research and of great use to clock enthusiasts for its chapters on the chronometer makers Alexander Dobbie, Duncan McGregor, Kelvin White, and Whyte Thomson & Co. Barometer collectors will want this book for its information about Alexander Adie and his successors including English branches of the business. Sundial enthusiasts are not forgotten, there is a chapter on Richard Melville and his slate sundials. The book's illustrations are of instruments in the Museum's Arthur Frank Collection, and this copy of the book has a presentation inscription signed by Arthur Frank on the title page.
