Edward Foster London, c1790

A good mahogany cased bracket clock with alarm, signed on a plaque to the dial centre Edward Foster London.

The very attractive mahogany veneered case has cross banding to the door and to the breakarch top – the latter in familiar ‘3-pad top’ form (see picture further down the page). The case has scale pattern side frets, brass stringing to the corners and stands on brass bracket feet. The front door has brass stringing to the side edges and to the glazed aperture perimeter.

Case height 17 inches including handle.

This clock has always had a verge escapement, the present crown wheel and pallets are replacements.

The 7-inch dial with date, alarm and strike/silent features, has a silvered chapter ring and brass spandrels.

The twin-fusee 8-day movement has a verge escapement with engraved back plate and strikes the hours on a bell.

In the picture below you can see the '3 pad top'.
