A good English skeleton clock c1840
- A good English single train skeleton clock with passing strike mounted on its original, brass inlaid, ebonised base complete with glass dome.
- The clock is in the Gothic style and has a lever escapement with a large balance wheel mounted vertically on the backplate; this enables seconds to be shown on the small dial above 12 o’clock.
- The clock has 6 turned brass pillars and a single chain driven fusee. The dial is of gilded brass with painted numerals, all very much in fashion at this period. The hands are of blued steel.
- The ebonised rectangular base has pad feet to the front and bun feet to the rear.
- Height, including glass dome, 17¾ inches.
This clock is illustrated in Derek Roberts English Skeleton Clocks page 53.
