Where no positive dating is yet available for makers, the authors have allocated dates as follows:
For brass dials: 18th c for eighteenth century
For painted faces: c1820-1830

Readers wishing to ascertain a date for their clock need to be aware that their clock may have been made well outside these allocated dates.
