This book appeared early in 1990, in a limited edition of 200 copies. Publication coincided witht the first meeting of the British Sundial Society in March of that year, with the result that it was rapidly sold out. Since there was considerable demand for this book, it was decided to reprint it.

The book consists of Andrew Somerville's original article in the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, together with a typed version of his catalogue of Scottish sundials, which appeared on micro-fiche in the Proceedings.

All the sundials listed in this catalogue have been recorded in the British Sundial Society's Register of the sundials of the British Isles. Many of the records are incomplete. Almost all of the research was done before the register was undertaken by the British Sundial Society, so that many details remain to be recorded.
