[Greeting: pretext="Dear" field="F" alttext="Hello"],

No new books on horology have been produced recently but, at the end of the month, Oxford University Press are due to publish A General History of Horology edited by Anthony Turner, James Nye and Jonathan Betts. I should have full details of this in next month's newsletter.

For this month's newsletter I have listed some new books you may have overlooked, and also various out of print titles purchased last month and in December last year.

New Books:

The appendices include a table of serial numbers with dates, list of customers, and participation in the trials at Neuchatel Observatory.

Directory of British Scientific Instrument Makers
1550 - 1851
Gloria Clifton

O/P. A well researched listing of instrument makers including makers of clocks, barometers and sundials. This is an essential reference book as it is the most accurate source for data on the makers' working addresses, dates, apprentices, partnerships, etc. I find it the best reference book for chronometer makers and retailers, barometer makers and sundial makers. Only clockmakers who made scientific instruments are listed, but this includes more names that you might expect. Now hard to find. A very good copy (a few annotations in text), with good but worn dust jacket.

331 pages, 1995.
