O/P. Edmund Beckett Denison, later Sir Edmund Beckett, then Lord Grimthorpe, was one of the 19th century's great horological characters. The book contains lots of information on clocks, watches and chronometers. A very good copy, light foxing to title and index pages, in a fine modern binding, the leather spine with gilt lettering, the buckram boards with the original paper label laid down on the front.

Treatise on Clock and Watch Making, Theoretical and Practical

O/P. Frontispiece, xvi, 466 pages, 19 folding plates, 7th edition, 1859. The text and plates are bound in separate matching volumes, the frontispiece bound in with the plates. A celebrated work by Thomas Reid, the famous Edinburgh clock and watch maker. The book is a comprehensive treatise on clocks, watches and chronometers with information on orreries and turret clocks. Text volume: A very good copy with a little foxing to a few pages, end papers worn and with a few tears, contemporary half Morocco, binding tight, with gilt lettering and gilt tooling to the spine; the leather now a little marked and worn to corners, the paper covered boards now a little rubbed. Plate volume: Most plates with light foxing, a few with heavier foxing, 3 plates splitting along the fold line (one with old repair); the binding and boards in same condition as the text volume.
