Welcome to September's newsletter. We have two news items this month, the first about a small exhibition of clocks & watches made in Buckingham, the second news that parcels entering the United States of America will now be liable for import taxes; more details are given below.

Also this month we have our usual offering, detailing some of the many books currently in stock - this month's selection is books that, I personally, would not like to be without.

Clock & Watchmaking in Buckingham
15th-27th September 2025, 10am - 4pm (including Sunday 21st)

An exhibition of Clocks & Watches made around Buckingham between 1680 and 1900, to be held at the Old Gaol, Market Hill, Buckingham. The exhibition is in an interesting building built in 1748 as a prison, now an interesting local museum run by the Buckingham Old Gaol Trust.

Import Taxes USA
USA residents need to be aware that from 29 August 2025 all parcels imported to the United States may be subject to import taxes. This replaces the previous rules where parcels with a value of 800 US Dollars, or less, were exempt.

My understanding is that the new tariffs depend on the country of manufacture and product type; books published in Enland will attract 10% duty, those from the EU or Japan 15% duty with various rates for other countries. As with imports to most other countries I assume that the importer (USPS or Fedex for example) will notify the buyer and collect the applicable import duty from the buyer.

US Customs, the US Post Office and the parcel courier companies are all rushing to understand and implement the new rules, so some delivery delays may occur.
