S/H. 111 pages, illus, 2000. A detailed study of the business of Robert Hughes, based on original documents and record books, which manufactured and retailed watches in the second half of the 19th century. The book shows the difficulty faced by British manufacturers caused by large-scale importation of low cost watches. Good copy with good (but creased) dust jacket. (Ref: BB333)

Baillie (G.H.): Watches Their History , Decoration and Mechanism
O/P. 383 pages, 75 plates, 1929. Written in 1929 this is still a respected reference book on the subject and well worth reading. The book covers the history of 4 centuries of watch development with 189 b&w and 35 colour photographs, together with 82 line drawings of mechanisms. Essential reading. Internally a good clean copy, with very light foxing to page edges, end papers very foxed. Binding tight, covers worn and marked, small tears to cloth at top and bottom of spine. (Ref: BB155)
