O/P. [11 pages, 4 folding pates], number 028 of 200 copies, reprinted 1973. The Brevet (patent), valid for 5 years, was for ten horological tools including a wheel cutting engine, drilling machine, machine to cut rolled brass sheet, a lathe for turning fusees, barrels etc., etc. The plates are beautifully drawn and show some fine tools. Jerome (C.): History of the American Clock Business for the Past Sixty Years, and Life of Chauncey Jerome
O/P. 144 pages, portrait, 1st edition, 1860. An interesting book - by 1850 Jerome had built up a clock business annually producing more than half of the clocks made in the entire United States, six years later his empire crumbled leaving him penniless. The rare first edition, 2 leaves and portrait torn and with sellotape repairs, pages with very light foxing, rear end paper torn (50% loss), hinges reinforced with tape, covers worn. Overall a bit scruffy, but it is the rare first edition and over 170 years old! [Note: Page 8 is followed by page 11 but nothing is missing, all the facsimile reprints I have seen have the same pagination]. (Ref: K3636 - M1)

This is a modern reprint of a book first published in 1892 which itself was a collection of articles which first appeared in the American The Jewelers' Circular from 1870 onwards.
