An excellent work describing and illustrating the Time Museum's collection of 157 precision timekeepers, mostly with spring detent escapements, one or two with lever escapements and a George Daniels watch with his double wheel 'independent' escapement. This work is an excellent reference and includes examples by Mudge, Arnold, Earnshaw, Berthoud, Breguet and Motel to name a few. The list of known Earnshaw chronometers and their double numbering system is very useful for dating Earnshaw's work. A guide to dating Ulysse Nardin chronometers is also given. A substantial compilation of text and about 275 plates on horology, and related subjects, extracted from the Cyclopaedia; now bound as 3 volumes of text and 2 volumes of plates, 1820. The plates include all 50 Horology Plates, as well as plates on Barometers, Dialling, Drawing Instruments, Engines, Microscopes, Telescopes and other scientific instruments.
