The book opens with the history of time, the movement of the earth in space, timekeeping from sundials to atomic clocks and also has chapters on mutable time, measuring time past and time in disarray. This book covers 3 types of electric clocks: those in which a pendulum or balance is moved directly by the electrical impulse, those where the driving force is electrically rewound and those with a/c synchronous motors. The sub-title says it all: Principles, Construction, Operation, Installation and Repair of Mains and Battery-operated Clocks for Domestic and Industrial Purposes. The book contains articles on John Harrison, his work and its significance, as well as articles on the Abbey, the memorial itself, and the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers. Sold with this item are the 10-page order of service for the dedication in the Abbey; a list of the 3 lectures about Harrison given that day; and tickets for, the ceremony, the lectures and the reception which followed. O/P. 224 pages, illustrated, 1977. A detailed study of the longcase clocks (dials, cases and movements) made in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania together with a directory of their makers.
