O/P. 24 pages, illus., 1986. The board game of Emperor Ferdinand I is one of the masterpieces of the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. The medieval backgammon board, its 32 counters and case, were made in 1537 and are all made of inlaid and finely carved wood. A good book on weight driven French clocks from the 16th to the beginning of the 19th century, including gothic style clocks for church buildings and domestic houses, and lantern clocks. Two additional volumes were planned for comtoise clocks but I can find no evidence that they were ever published. A very good copy but, as so often with books published by Tardy, the paper covering the boards is splitting along the spine. [French language]
