Crane, who was probably self-taught, took out his first clock patent in 1829 and worked in Newark then Boston. His clocks, including year going torsion clocks, are highly individual in design. A very useful reference to affordable Victorian and Edwardian clocks, torsion clocks, electric clocks, alarm clocks, time recorders and many more types of clock. The book is well researched and has useful information about various makers including addresses and dates. The appendices include a reprint of the Hirst Bros. Catalogue of Watch and Clock Materials from c1916 and the British Clock Manufacturers Supplement for 1940. A fine copy with very good dust jacket (faded to spine). (Ref: K1359 - E1)
