A book of practical information for young watch makers including the balance staff, jewelling, pivoting, the balance and various escapements including a chapter titled Why Some Workmen Fail to Succeed. Hoopes (P.R.): Shop Records of Daniel Burnap Clockmaker
O/P. 188 pages, illustrated, number 814 of 1000 copies printed, 1958. Daniel Burnap worked in East Windsor, Connecticut from about 1779 to 1805. Burnap is one of the few clockmakers whose records still exist so this book gives a good insight into the life and times of a successful late 18th century American clockmaker. O/P. 64 pages, illustrated, not dated [ 1924 ]. A small and rare booklet published by the Horological Journal to coincide with the British Empire Exhibition held at Wembley in 1924. The first part of the book deals with the old masters of horology such as Tompion and Knibb. The second part reviews the watch and clock exhibits at the exhibition with details of all the horological exhibitors. A useful historical reference. A good copy, card covers spitting on spine.
