A comprehensive study of Swiss marine chronometer makers and their work; some makers such as Nardin and Ditisheim are well known, but this book also includes a lot of less well known makers. The book includes a chapter on the Neuchâtel and Geneva Observatories where chronometers were tested and a list of all the chronometers (with their serial numbers) on trial at Neuchâtel between 1860 and 1984 - very useful for dating extant examples. This is a new copy of the book, still in publishers shrink wrap, but with a small bruise to the bottom of the spine. [French language] (Ref: N2290)

Ferguson (J.): An Introduction to Electricity in Six Sections
O/P. iv, 140 pages, 3 folding plates, 2nd edition, 1775. Electrical science was in its infancy, so the book is about demonstrations of static electricity, the use of electricity in medicine and electrically-driven toys. The book was very popular at the time and was reprinted at intervals over the next 50 years. A very good copy in recent half leather binding with marbled paper boards.

Ferriday (P.): Lord Grimthorpe 1816 - 1905
O/P. 230 pages, illus., 1957. A biography of Edward Beckett Denison, later Sir Edmund Beckett, later Lord Grimthorpe who designed the Great Clock at Westminster and rebuilt the Abbey at St Albans.
