The Howells family originated in Leintwardine and moved to London where William Howells became a well known clock and chronometer maker. A biography of Edward Beckett Denison, later Sir Edmund Beckett, later Lord Grimthorpe who designed the Great Clock at Westminster and rebuilt the Abbey at St Albans.
