Farmer (J.J.): An Account of the Improvements in Chronometers, Watches and Clocks by E. T. Loseby (an Eminent Horologist) O/P. 68 pages, portrait, 14 figs., 3 plates, not dated but probably published in 1914. Loseby invented a form of auxiliary temperature compensation for chronometer balances using a small tube of mercury. He also designed an improved form of mercurial pendulum and a correction to render pendulums isochronous. Most of the book charts Loseby's success with his chronometer balance and his efforts to obtain official recognition. The remainder of the book described Loseby's Leicester turret clocks and his minor inventions. This is a good copy with light foxing to some page edges (not affecting text or plates) and some staining to page block edges. The cloth covered boards are a little marked with very light wear to corners. This is one of the rarest books on this list and only the third copy we have offered for sale in 20 years of selling horological books. (Ref: K1808 - B1) ..... in stock OUT OF STOCK
