Great Discoveries relating to Screw Cutting and the Lathe, establishing this work as a Standard Text Book for all time. Combined with The Original Turners' and Fitters' Handbook, which, without advertising, is now in the hands of over 50,000 engineers, and has reached the 15th edition. Also a complete explanation of what the Author believes to be the Most Perfect Lathe in the World, Which enables the Student to become an Expert Workman, and to acquire the best and simplest Methods of Calculation, by both British and Metric Measurements, Making both Lathe and Book highly adapted for Technical Schools. Grimbergen (C.A.) et al: Willem Barentsz en Zijn Uurwerk (Willem Barents and his Clock)
O/P. 30 pages, illustrated, 1996. Willem Barents, navigator, cartographer and arctic explorer, took part in three expeditions searching for a northern trade route to Asia in the late 16th century. In 1871 the building where the third expedition's crew over-wintered was found, the contents included a gothic clock which is the subject of this book. A good copy, card covers. Grimthorpe (Lord): A Rudimentary Treatise on Clocks, Watches and Bells
O/P. 404 pages, 81 figs., 1 folding plate, 8th edition, 1903. Edmund Beckett, Lord Grimthorpe, was one of the 19th century's great horological characters. The book contains lots of information on clocks, watches and chronometers. This is a very good copy with the folding plate of The Great Westminster Clock, still in its original cloth binding (the latter now a little discoloured). (Ref: KW1029 - T1)

O/P. 90 pages, a few line drawings, 1st edition, 1925. A handbook to the Oxford collections prepared for the opening of the Lewis Evans Collection on May 5th 1925. The Lewis Evans Collection, together with instruments from the Oxford University colleges, forms the core of the Museum of the History of Science all still housed in the Old Ashmolean building, Oxford. Beresford Hutchinson was curator of horology at the British Museum and then at Greenwich for many years so it is interesting to see the wide range of books worthy of space on his library shelves. Hagans (O.R.) editor: Year Clocks - Their Characteristics and Methods of Repair
O/P. 21 pages, 24 figs., no date. This item, about year going clocks with a torsion pendulum, was reprinted from The American Horologist & Jeweler in about 1949. The article first appeared in Deutsche Uhrmacher Zeitung in 1926. Paper covers now a little stained, staples rusted. (Ref: K1603 - BX5)
