Howgrave-Graham (R.P.): Some Clocks and Jacks, with Notes on the History of Horology
O/P. [56 pages, 12 plates], 1928. An interesting paper on early turret clocks with jacks for striking, reprinted from an issue of Archaeologia. Basically good but paper yellowing with age, paper covers now missing so front and back pages a little marked and worn. (Ref: K3059 - Y3)

O/P. 24 pages, illustrated, 4th edition, 1978. A description of the Wells cathedral clock, which has an internal dial only, and dates from the 14th century. The original movement is now in the London Science Museum. Good copy, card covers.

Howse (D.): Francis Place and the Early History of The Greenwich Observatory
O/P. 64 pages, 11 illustrations, 12 plates, 1975. John Flamsteed, the first Astronomer Royal, moved into the newly built Royal Observatory, Greenwich in 1676. This book reproduces the twelve etchings made by Francis Place between 1676 and 1679 which record how the Observatory and its surroundings looked when first built. This is a scarce paper contained in a volume of the Transactions of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society, and is about the life and work of Jonas Barber (father and son) of Winster.
