O/P. 440 pages, 51 plates, third edition, mid-20th century reprint. Thomas Sheraton's famous work on furniture design first published in 1793 and a third edition in 1802. The book includes two designs for longcase clock cases. Simoni (A.): Leonardo and the Chiaravalle Abbey Clock
O/P. [7 pages], 6 figs, reprinted from Antiquarian Horology, 1975. Chiaravalle Abbey, near Milan, still exists, the clock does not. The author evaluates Leonardo da Vinci's drawing of the clock in the Atlantic codex and shows that another codex attributed to Leonardo must be a forgery. Very good copy, card covers. This excellent book, with introduction and commentaries by Alan Smith, has a facsimile reprint of the first known horological tool catalogue which was issued by John Wyke between 1758 and 1770. The book is in 3 parts, an historical essay on the company by Alan Smith, a reprint of a company catalogue of circa 1905, and a reprint of 4 articles about the company written by Henry Abbott which appeared in the American Jeweler in 1893.
