O/P. xiv, 120 pages, the 1962 facsimile reprint of a book first published in 1675. The full title is Horological Dialogues In Three parts Shewing The Nature, Use, and right Managing of Clocks and Watches: with an Appendix Containing Mr Oughtred's Method for Calculating Numbers. The whole being a work very necessary for all that made use of these kind of Movements. This book is important, as it was the first book in the English language devoted to clocks and watches. The book is written in the form of Question and Answer; the appendix describes Oughtred's method for calculating wheel trains. The original edition is unobtainable and this facsimile edition is now hard to find. A very good copy (bookplate on front endpaper), covers a little marked. (Ref: K970 - T2)

O/P. vi + 92 pages, 1 folding table, the 1962 facsimile reprint of a book first published in 1694. The full title is Horological Disquisitions Concerning the Nature of Time, and the Reasons why all Days, from Noon to Noon, are not alike Twenty Four Hours long. This is John Smith's second book, it explains the difference between solar time and a 24 hour (mean time) day. The first table shows the difference between a solar day and a 24 hour day for every day of the year, the second table is an equation table arranged so that by setting a clock on ten specified days in the year it will always be within 3¾ minutes of solar time. The original edition of this book is almost unobtainable, this facsimile edition is now hard to find. A very good copy (bookplate on front endpaper). (Ref: K3572 - W1)

Still useful to have as some information about the makers is not contained in the more recent book by Whyte. A good copy, the dust jacket good but faded as usual. (Ref: K856 - R1)

The book includes Smiths clocks and watches for the motorist as well as all conceivable kinds of accessory - a folding ladder for use when putting luggage on the roof, a tyre inflator using a carbon dioxide cylinder, a motorcar turntable (I am not making these up!) and many more. NEW. [36 pages], 17 illustrations, plus 104 page catalogue of Scottish sundials, 1994. This interesting book reprints a paper, which originally appeared in a learned journal, detailing the 'Renaissance' sundials in Scotland. The dials date from the 17th and early 18th centuries and are free standing stone sculptures; the list includes examples still in existence as well as those known only from records.
