Synchronome: Printed Summer Time Label
O/P. A printed card used by The Synchromome Co. Ltd to remind clock owners to advance their master clock by one hour so as to show Summer Time. The printed card measures 8.2 x 2.8 inches (20.8 x 7.3 cm) and was for use on April 2nd 1945. An interesting piece of ephemera, now stained, with some loss to edges and a small tear.

This is a large and comprehensive work, the four volumes have 356 pages, 392 pages, 524 pages, 618 pages respectively and a wealth of illustrations. Volume 3 also has chapters on clocks from the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Scotland, Ireland, the United States and Canada. An essential book for collectors of French decorative clocks with lots of illustrations. Since the publisher died some years ago this book has become very hard to find and the English language version (as here) even more so. This is a very good set, each volume is in its original hardback binding with no inscriptions or bookplates, binding still tight, minor wear to bottom edges, 2 bumped corners to Part 2. This set weighs 12.5 kg, shipping in Britain will be £6.99, for other destinations please ask for a quotation as website calculator cannot handle this weight.

Tarplee (P.): Abinger and the Royal Greenwich Observatory
O/P. 16 pages, illus., 1996. Abinger, Surrey was the location of an outstation of the Greenwich Observatory from 1924 until 1957. The magnetic observatory moved to Abinger in 1924 and the Time Department relocated there just prior to World War II. Very good copy, card covers. (Ref: K1244 - BX1)

Taylor (J.C.): Joseph Knibb's First Grande Sonnerie Clock?
O/P. 6 pages, 10 illustrations, 2002. An extract from Antiquarian Horology. The author argues that this clock, circa 1672, was probably Knibb's first grande sonnerie clock as it uses a single mainspring (a barrel with a great wheel at each end) to drive the two striking trains, each without a fusee. O/P. 191 pages, 134 figs., reprinted 1991. This is an excellent book on the design and repair of English clock cases - for longcase, bracket and wall clocks. The authors cover joints and panels, mouldings, veneering, gilding and the design of cases if you desire to make your own. A book telling the story of the watch, describing and illustrating 77 watches selected from the magnificent collection of watches held by The British Museum. The earliest example was made circa 1560, the latest in 2007. Each watch is illustrated in colour with excellent photographs of dial, movement and case. Card covers.
